Getting Started
What is Chatterly?
Chatterly is a free anonymous chat platform with open chat rooms where you can meet new people and have real conversations without creating an account. It's completely free, requires no sign-up, and lets you start anonymous chatting in seconds — just pick a nickname.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Chatterly requires zero registration. You enter a nickname, optionally share your age, gender, and country, then you're in the lobby. No email, no password, no account.
Is Chatterly completely free?
Yes — Chatterly is 100% free to use. There are no premium tiers, no ads, and no paid features. Our free chat rooms are open to everyone at no cost.
What devices can I use Chatterly on?
Chatterly works on any device with a modern web browser — desktop, laptop, tablet, or mobile phone. No app download is required.
How do I start a conversation?
After entering your nickname on the home page, you'll land in the Lobby where all currently online users are listed. Click on any user's card to open a private chat with them.
Can I use Chatterly to meet new people?
Absolutely. Chatterly is designed to help you meet new people from all over the world. Browse the lobby, filter by gender or age, and start a conversation with anyone who catches your interest. Many users use it to make new friends or find interesting people to talk to.
Is Chatterly a dating chat site?
Chatterly is a general-purpose free chat room platform, not strictly a dating site. That said, many people use it to connect with others romantically. You can filter users by gender and age in the lobby to find people you'd like to chat with. All interactions are consensual and based on mutual interest.
Privacy & Anonymity
Is my identity truly anonymous?
Your nickname is the only public-facing identifier. We do not ask for your name, email, or phone number. However, your
IP address is logged server-side for security and legal compliance purposes. See our
Privacy Policy for full details.
Can other users see my IP address?
No. Other users never see your IP address. It is only accessible to Chatterly administrators and is never displayed publicly.
How long is my data stored?
Your user session is automatically removed after
5 minutes of inactivity. Messages are deleted when your session ends. See our
Privacy Policy for specifics.
Does Chatterly use cookies?
Chatterly uses a single session cookie to keep you logged in during your visit. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics cookies.
Can I delete my messages?
Currently there is no self-service message deletion for users. When you log out your user record is removed. For data deletion requests, contact us — see our
Privacy Policy for details.
Safety & Moderation
What is Chatterly's minimum age?
Chatterly is intended for users 18 and over. If you suspect a user is underage, please report them immediately using the ⚑ Report button in the chat window. We take these reports very seriously.
How do I report a user?
Open a chat with the user and click the ⚑ Report button in the top-right corner. Choose a reason (harassment, spam, inappropriate content, suspected underage, or other), add optional details, and submit. Our team reviews every report.
What happens after I submit a report?
Reports are reviewed by our admin team. Depending on severity, the reported user may be warned, kicked from the current session, or permanently banned. For serious legal violations, we will cooperate with law enforcement.
What content is prohibited on Chatterly?
The following are strictly prohibited: sexual content involving minors (CSAM), threats or incitement to violence, doxxing or sharing others' personal information without consent, spam or scam attempts, and any content that violates applicable law. Violators are permanently banned and may be reported to authorities.
Why was I kicked or banned?
Users may be removed for violating our community guidelines, being reported by other users, or suspicious activity. If you believe a ban was made in error, you may contact us to appeal.
Technical
Why do users show as "offline" in my inbox?
Chatterly sessions automatically expire after 5 minutes of inactivity. When a user's session ends their profile is removed, but your conversation history remains. You can still view the message history by clicking the conversation.
Why am I not seeing new messages?
Chatterly polls for new messages every 2 seconds. If messages aren't appearing, try refreshing the page. Check your internet connection if the issue persists.
Is there a message character limit?
Yes. Individual messages are limited to 500 characters. The character counter at the bottom of the chat input shows how many characters you have remaining.
Why do I keep getting logged out?
For privacy and performance reasons, Chatterly automatically ends sessions after 5 minutes without any activity (sending a message or navigating between pages counts as activity). To stay connected, keep the tab open and active.
